Launched in yellow gold in 1993, it remained in production until 2002 whilst also being offered in pink and white gold, as well as in platinum. The dials featured either applied baton markers or Roman numerals, and a moon-phase aperture at 6 o’clock, with later examples featuring the Automatic text below the moon-phase. It is thoughts that only 150 examples of the 5050 in pink were made, with only 25 returning to the market. toIntroduced in 1993 and produced until 2002, reference 5050—alongside its officer-case sibling, reference 5059—stands as one of the lesser-known grails of modern watchmaking. For the first time in Patek Philippe's history, a perpetual calendar was equipped with both an automatic movement and central seconds, uniting the hallmark features of vintage references 3448/3450 (automatic) and 2497/2438-1 (central seconds). Adding to its technical innovation, the 5050 features a retrograde date—a complication that enabled a dial layout rarely seen on a Patek Philippe production model. The watch was offered in yellow, pink, and white gold, as well as in platinum. Dial variations included applied baton markers or Roman numerals, with a moon-phase aperture positioned at 6 o’clock. According to research, fewer than 150 examples were produced in platinum over the model’s nine-year production run, spread across three series—underscoring its rarity and desirability among collectors.
