Patek Philippe Nautilus (2003)

Patek Philippe Nautilus 3710/1A-001 Box and Papers 2003 Full Set This is a Patek Philippe Nautilus 3710/1A-001 with box and papers from 2003 and comes as a full set. This watch is in excellent condition, having been cherished by the original owner. The Patek Philippe Nautilus 3710 “Comet” was introduced in 1998. With its unique power reserve display, this was the first Nautilus to include a complication other than the date. This reference also marked a return to the beloved Jumbo case size for the first time since the original reference 3700. This model strikes the perfect balance by retaining key elements that make the Nautilus so sought-after, while setting itself apart with some thoughtful differences. The iconic case remains faithful to Gérald Genta’s original design, measuring 42mm in diameter and just 8.1mm thick. That makes this watch a little smaller than the modern 5711 and a little larger than the vintage 3700. The bracelet has excellent articulation and pulls down almost completely vertical, avoiding the flare seen on current references. With its true-to-the-original monobloc case, 120m water resistance, and excellent brushed and polished finishing throughout, the 3710 case and bracelet are near perfect. While the case design is more familiar, the dial is proudly different. The matte black background is a major departure from the gradient blue teak deck style often associated with the Nautilus, and it balances the watch beautifully. The subdued background brings welcome calm to the design, while the white gold Roman numerals, outer railroad track and power reserve display add all the flair needed. The numerals and hands are fully lumed, and because this example is from 2003, the lume detail will be of particular interest to collectors. The power reserve complication is unusual. This is the only watch Patek Philippe implemented it in, as the reserve meter and hand both rotate within the subdial. When winding the watch, the meter spins clockwise in an animation that almost looks like a comet, adding charm and character to the watch. Powering the watch is the automatic winding calibre 330 SC. It contains a shock absorber, a self-compensating flat balance spring and a straight-line lever escapement. This is a true sports watch, with excellent finishing and the Geneva hallmark. What makes this 3710 so exceptional is that it combines a unique take on an icon while being one of the last of its vintage references. This is very much a connoisseur’s Nautilus, and it is unlikely to remain this accessible for long. This watch would make for a great investment as it is continuously rising in value. This Patek Philippe has undergone a thorough inspection of water resistance, accuracy, functionality and condition to determine the level of reconditioning required to meet our strict standards. It has also been referenced against technical documents and manufacturer records where available to ensure authenticity and a clean history.
