The sapphire-set ref. 5711/111P-001, offered for the first time at Phillips and one of only 3 known to come at auction to date, emerges as one of the most exclusive and rarely seen variants and never formally catalogued for general distribution. The watch measures the same 40mm in diameter, retaining the Nautilus’s signature porthole-inspired cushion case with its distinctive octagonal bezel and integrated bracelet. The entire ensemble is crafted in solid platinum, featuring contrasting polished and satin-finished surfaces that enhance the model’s robust yet refined presence.
The bezel is set with 32 baguette-cut blue sapphires totaling approximately 4 carats, arranged in an invisible setting that accentuates the octagonal silhouette. Complementing this are another 12 baguette-cut blue sapphires (0.24 carats) set into the white-gold applied hour markers, bringing the total gem count to 44 baguette sapphires. The dial itself is executed in a sunburst charcoal-gray finish with a black-gradient rim and an embossed motif that echoes the Nautilus’s porthole heritage.
Earlier examples of the ref. 5711 family usually housed the predecessor cal. 324 S C; however, this reference utilizes the later, more refined cal. 26-330 S C, introduced in the final years of ref. 5711 production lifespan for enhanced precision and a hacking seconds function.
The sapphire-set ref. 5711/111P-001 belongs to an ultra-elite series of platinum jewelry Nautilus models alongside diamond, ruby, and emerald-set counterparts. These pieces were allocated on a strictly private basis and produced in extremely limited numbers, rendering them among the rarest and most sought-after modern Patek Philippe wristwatches. It is so visually striking that it elevates the Nautilus archetype into the realm of haute joaillerie while preserving the model’s timeless sport-luxury DNA. Its scarcity and bespoke character ensure that it remains one of the most coveted sport-luxury objects in contemporary watchmaking.
The present example, offered by the original owner in “like-new” condition, is made even more exclusive with Tiffany & Co. stamped Certificate of Origin and signature “Tiffany blue” outer packaging, making this example the only one known retailed by Tiffany.
