The first version, reference 3700, was designed by Gérald Genta in the midst of the quartz crisis in 1976, and the design was inspired by a ship's porthole. It followed the trend towards ultra-luxurious sports watches made of steel with integrated bracelets, which began in 1972 with the introduction of the ‘Royal Oak’ by Audemars Piguet. An interesting detail is that the creative visionary Gérald Genta, also known as the ‘Picasso of watches’, designed both the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak and the Patek Philippe Nautilus, as well as many other timepieces for nearly all major brands. In 2006, 30 years after the release of reference 3700, Patek Philippe launched its successor, reference 5711/1A, which was an instant success. Over the years, various dial variants have been launched on the market. This watch comes in the classic version, with a stainless steel case and blue dial. Production of the stainless steel Patek Philippe Nautilus was finally discontinued in 2021, yet it continues to captivate collectors around the world more than ever. From an important European private collection. Watch case partly scratched.
