The Nautilus is certainly Patek Philippe's best-known model. Designed by Gérald Genta, who also designed Audemars Piguet's Royal Oak, the Nautilus model was introduced in 1976 and was the Manufacture's first luxury steel sports watch. Nicknamed “Jumbo” thanks to its imposing 42 mm diameter for the time, this model (ref. 3700) got off to a rocky start, and it wasn't until 1980 that smaller versions appeared as an alternative, with the mid-size reference 3800 and the lady version reference 4700 as seen here. The nautilus 4700 is a scaled-down version of the iconic “Jumbo” model, retaining all its design elements such as the monobloc case and the famous ribbed dial. It also boasts a distinctive hue ranging from midnight blue to a uniquely deep grey/blue. Only 6mm thick, this model is equipped with the E19 quartz movement. The watch is delivered with its box (interior missing), Patek Philippe certificate of origin, manuals, document holder and original invoice.
