Susannah Lovis is pleased to offer to the market, this Patek Philippe Nautilus Ref. 3700/1 ‘Jumbo’ The Patek Philippe Nautilus Ref. 3700/1, affectionately known as the “Jumbo,” stands as one of the most celebrated wristwatches ever created. Designed by the legendary Gérald Genta and introduced in 1976, this reference redefined the boundaries of luxury by seamlessly blending sport and elegance. Crafted in stainless steel, the 3700/1 features the instantly recognizable porthole-inspired case with its distinctive rounded octagonal bezel and integrated bracelet. Its bold yet refined silhouette is complemented by a horizontally embossed blue dial, offering understated sophistication and exceptional legibility. At its heart lies the ultra-thin automatic calibre 28-255 C, a movement renowned for its precision and elegance, derived from Jaeger-LeCoultre’s finest engineering. With its 42mm case (measured diagonally), the “Jumbo” was ahead of its time, embodying a modern presence decades before oversized watches became the norm. Today, it remains one of the most sought-after vintage timepieces, prized for its historical significance, rarity, and enduring design. A true collector’s piece, the Nautilus 3700/1 is more than a watch — it is a milestone in horological history and a symbol of timeless taste. This model we have for was made in 1983 and sold in 1986. It features a type 3 dial which has a similar type of writing to the type 1 but the lower summit of the “V” is truncated, “H” is a bit wider, the stress on the second “E” of GENEVE is not so close, still attached but a little more prominent and the legs of “K” are not exactly converging to the same point. We find at 6 hours “sigma SWISS sigma”. It is supposed that this type of dial was mounted starting from about end of 1978 beginning of 1979 which has a similar type of writing to the type 1 The watch is beautifully presented with its rare cork display box complete with outer, 2022 Patek service receipts and extract from archive. Please note that due to the age of the watch, we cannot guarantee the watch is water resistant and submerging the watch underwater may cause damage.
