It replaces the 12-year production run of the reference 5070 in Patek Philippe’s catalogue, and was later succeeded by the reference 5172. The present yellow gold specimen represents the first model and iteration of the reference, characterised by the opaline dial with applied baton hour markers and Roman numerals for 12 and 6 o’clock. Variants in pink gold, white gold and platinum were subsequently released after the present reference was discontinued in 2013. Powered by manual calibre CH 29-535 PS, the first movement in Patek Philippe's history to bear the Patek Philippe Seal, its technical finesse and reliability cannot be understated. Research and development alone took five years, and the result is beautifully displayed through the sapphire case back. Offered in single-sealed packaging, the present example is preserved in unworn condition, with an attractive layer of patina visible on the case and buckle. It is further accompanied by its complete set of accessories, marking a rare opportunity to collect this superb discontinued reference.
