Introduced in 1934, the 130 remained in the Patek catalog for 30 years. Over that time, the reference went through a number of changes – most notably moving from an early mono-pusher to a traditional two-button chronograph. Case design and construction were overseen by the venerable firm of Vichet, ensuring the highest degree of fit and finish. Furthermore, each movement was fully hand mounted in the Patek Philippe grande tradition and finished with the "cotes de Genève" decoration. The calibre 13-130 had an ébauche made by Valjoux and was used by Patek Philippe for fifty years. It is still today widely recognized as one of the best and most beautiful chronograph movements ever created. The dials, as exemplified by the present specimen, are usually silvered with gold Arabic and baton indexes and a outer tachometer scale. This early example features the period correct hard enamel long signature on its dial, adding to its desirability. Being the first serially produced Patek chronograph, it was offered in a wide variety of case metals and dials, with yellow gold being the most classical variant. However, there is no such thing as a truly common 130 – with total production being around 1,500 watches. Our example, accompanied by its Extract from the Archives confirming the matching numbers, is appearing on the market for the first time, having remained with its original family until today.
