Taking direct inspiration from the Nautilus, only 1,000 of these inaugural models were produced. This later ref. 5066 Aquanaut features the same robust automatic movement visible through a sapphire caseback. But as a rare Japan edition in stainless steel, it stands apart with a vivid blue dial with a matching blue rubber strap released in extremely limited quantities of approximately 500 pieces for the Japanese market. It was one of the first Patek Philippe sports model made exclusively for Japan. A rare one to come across on the market and certainly an iconic model for Japan, the present example from circa 1998 is complete with its Certificate of Origin, Japanese service papers, matching blue additional crocodile strap and original presentation box. This unusual and charismatic blue ref. 5066A-010 will be a treasured prize for Patek Philippe collectors. A fitting tribute to a pioneering model, it carries the Aquanaut heritage forward with subtle rarity and vivid personality.
