PATEK PHILIPPE - Lot 149
PATEK PHILIPPE CALATRAVA. REF. 2508. PRODUCED IN 1963 AND SOLD ON JULY 22, 1963 Water-resistant steel bracelet watch on leather. Case: round in steel, water-resistant screw-down caseback, inside caseback inscribed F.B for François Borgel, case manufacturer, and 'Vacuum' which specifies the water-resistance of the case, anti-magnetic double back. Dial: silvered, applied 'obus' hour-markers and pearled minute track, dauphine hands and central seconds-hand. Movement: mechanical, cal. 27SC, double poinçon de Genève, faux côtes de Genève decoration, 18 jewels, N° 710'660. Strap: leather with attached buckle. Dial, case and movement signed. Numbered 2'614'182. Diam. 35 mm. With: original Patek Philippe case, Extrait des Registres dated 18/03/2025. To be revised. Provenance: descendants of the first owner. An identical model (same dial) appears in: Huber M. Banbery A., Brunner G.L., Patek Philippe, Second Edition, 1998, Geneva, Switzerland, p. 204, pl. 328. Probably the most desirable Calatrava reference, thanks to its features: First water-resistant reference to feature a screw-down caseback. The central seconds-hand, unlike ref. 2509, produced simultaneously but with a small seconds-hand. The proportions of the case are reminiscent of ref. 1463, both made by François Borgel. It is presented here in a steel version, produced in extremely small quantities compared to the gold models. It is estimated that fewer than a dozen steel ref. 2508s have been auctioned.
