OMEGA, CK2777 "Fat Arrow" RAF Issue Mechanical Wristwatch, 1953

Description: 1953 RAF OMEGA pilots "Fat Arrow" mechanical wristwatch in stainless steel. Model reference CK2777-1. OMEGA calibre, 283 manual winding mechanical movement. Stainless steel, 36.4 mm case diameter. Serial number 6779/53. Black dial with black arabic numerals and plexiglass crystal. 18 mm fixed lugs features a black leather strap with pin buckle. In running order. Watch only. This 1953 RAF OMEGA pilots watch features the Military Issue, original British MOD “Fat Arrow” Tritium dial. These watches were only made in 1953 when the British Ministry of Defence ordered a limited number (5,900) of them in that year for their RAF pilots. They were originally made with “Thin Arrow” Radium dials but these proved to be dangerously radioactive when stock-piled, so the MOD recalled them and re-dialed them with the safer Tritium (hence the “T” in the circle) “Fat Arrow” dials. Case back is engraved with all the relevant military references; the NATO stock number, the service reference number, the RAF service management code, the RAF service number, and the assignment year (1953). All watches are sold as is. Webb's make no guarantee of the future working order of the watch or battery life, and watches may need to be serviced to improve accuracy. None of the watches have been tested for time keeping accuracy or running time, nor have any seals been tested on water-resistant watches. Vintage watches may have been restored or repaired over the years, as such Webb's cannot guarantee that individual component parts are original or authentic.
