Omega Speedmaster 125 Chronometer with Omega automatic winding movement caliber 1041 with a frequency of 28,800 alternations/hour and with an approximate power reserve of 44 hours, originallly delivered to Germany in 1978. This model was the world’s first automatic chronograph to receive an official Chronometer Certification. It was released to celebrate the founding of the OMEGA brand in 1848 and 2,000 pieces were produced to mark the occasion. The watch’s adventurous spirit was embraced by the Russian cosmonaut Vladimir Dzhanibekov who wore the Speedmaster 125 in 1978 when he spent a total of 145 days and 16 hours in space. The calibre 1041 was the “Officially Chronometer Certified” version of the calibre 1040. This, in fact, made it officially the world’s first automatic chronograph-chronometer. It had a high frequency of 28,800 v/h which improved OMEGA’s precision and was innovatively created with a rotor mounted on a ball-bearing. The functions included a date indicator, a 24-hour indicator with day/night reading and a rapid date-setting device.
