Omega Seamaster Cosmic 166.022 Tool 105 dated automatic (Serviced Apr 2021)
Serviced in April 2021, this vintage timepiece is a fascinating part of Seamaster brush with space age history.
During the late 1960s and 1970s, Omega produced a series of casual and dress timepieces that embraced a relatively modern and futuristic design under the “Seamaster Cosmic” brand.
The Cosmic models are steely examples of 60s retro chic not usually associated with the regular water inclined Seamasters.
Omega produced these in a number of different styles and configurations, however the general design language revolves around cushion-shaped cases, and dials that either have “crosshair” markings or checkered minute tracks.
This vintage Cosmic is a little durable dynamo that has very much managed to slide under the radar of many collectors.
The monobloc case design was produced for less than a decade from 1967 until the mid 70s, in an attempt to capitalize on the space-age mania of the era.
This particular timepiece is a 565 movement set in an subtly aggressive and muscular stainless pillow case, which looks brilliant on the wrist and wears comfortably.
It is not exactly water resistant, but it's extraordinarily minute unishell case is a delicious representation of Omega's interesting timepieces from that age.
Additionally, this model features a front-loading, monobloc case to improve its (fairly limited) water resistance.
With a gentle and almost clean champagne dial, the automatic movement allows for a 50 hour reserve manual wind, and a unique quick set date change function (pull of the crown).
On the rear of the case the "166022-Tool 105" and traditional "Seamaster" hippocampus logo is cleanly engraved.
Minor abrasions are on the case and crystal, a regular expectation of a favorite vintage. The leather strap includes an original Omega buckle.
Please be mindful that the caliber is fairly old and care is needed when winding the spring. Accuracy of the timepiece is dependent on the wound spring. The timepiece will lose some seconds near the end of the wind.
Also note that, as with all vintages, the movement may be damaged if an attempt to change the date between the hours of 9:00 PM and 3:00 AM is made.
Please consider to change the date when the time is outside that range first, then reset the time after adjusting the date.
Finally, also note that it is strongly recommended not to use the timepiece under environments with extreme moisture. (By nature of its age, it should not be considered a water resistant watch)
