The watch has been fully serviced on 21st October 2025. This watch has excellent movement, cal.562, inside the stainless steel case. This calibre has been used by Omega in watches since 1958 for Seamaster models. Designed by the talented Marc Colomb, it effectively represents a distillation of all the knowledge that Omega accumulated in the area of self-winding movement technology in the post-war period. Omega Seamaster was introduced in 1948 as one of three ‘Master’ watches for special missions. The mission here would be underwater. As we all know, the Seamaster heritage helped make it the choice of a certain very special 007 agent on screen. The Seamaster model was, in essence, an evolution from the rugged pilot’s watch produced earlier for the RAF and many other air forces. It was supposed to be capable of withstanding rough use and still remain stylish. Omega Watch Co, Swiss” is signed on the rotor. The rotor bridge features the wording “Twenty Four 24 Jewels”, while the calibre number 562 is stamped on the plate. Over 5.5 million pieces of this calibre family were produced. The watch measures 34.5mm without the crown and 41mm lug to lug. The caseback has a Seamaster logo and reference No. 166.003. The first three digits stand for: 1 - Gent’s watch, 6 – Self-winding centre second, and 6 – Water Resistant Calendar. If we look very carefully, below the model reference, there is the tiny maker’s mark of a coded emblem of CB – Centrale Boites SA, the firm that manufactured this case. In common with IWC, Rolex, Jaeger LeCoultre and its other close competitors, Omega was not a manufacturer of watch cases and instead purchased these from a small network of third-party suppliers that specialised in this field. The glass is an acrylic crystal typical of the era. The expertly refurbished dial has silver faceted reliefs - hour markers, and the Omega 'Dauphine' hands. The new best quality black leather strap complements the look. This watch will come in a new wooden presentation box. We give the future owner a 3-month warranty for peace of mind. Please study the pictures carefully, as these are at great magnification and show all the flaws that second-hand watches always have. A lot of watches are advertised as waterproof or water-resistant. As part of the service, we do replace all the gaskets and all the care is taken to make the watches resistant to water. The truth is that in old watches it is nearly impossible to achieve the 100% result. So, do not take a bath or shower wearing your vintage watch. There is always a risk that something can go wrong and the damage caused by water is the hardest to repair. This is why we never say our watches are waterproof. Please treat them as if they are not if you want the timeless Omega. This watch has been worn proudly in the past. It shows you what sort of amazing engineering has gone into it if it can survive in this workable state for so long. The truth is you need to service your watch at least every five years to make sure you prolong its life. We have a watchmaker that had been helping us with restoration for the past 20 years and he has been working with Omega watches for the past 50 years - you can't get any more knowledge than that. He has now retired and helps only us while enjoying his retirement. He is not pushed to deliver to the deadlines and he takes his time to make it perfect. There has been a lot of love and care dotted on this watch and you can see it in the pictures. The photos are at great magnification and even tiny marks are visible - you will not be able to see these with the naked eye. You will be able to see the specks of dust even though I try my best to wipe these off. This is a fine rare vintage Omega Seamaster with date watch and a partially hidden crown in great condition, one of the better Omega models available on the market.
