Omega Ranchero Seamaster 30mm 2990-1
A lot is often said about Omega’s iconic trio of sports watches released in 1957, the Speedmaster, Seamaster and Railmaster. All created to satisfy the needs of their specific owners, Omega launched the Ranchero as a sort of general toolwatch the following year in 1958. Taking from the trilogy’s design language, the Ranchero features a black dial with an arrow-shaped hour hand, long dagger-shaped hour markers and a 3-6-12 Arabic numeral arrangement that aided in its legibility. Measuring 35mm in diameter and made of stainless steel, the Ranchero was a hard-wearing watch with a robust manual-wind movement to match, the cal. 267 from Omega’s 30mm family of movements. However, after just year of production the Ranchero was discontinued due to its unpopularity in Spanish-speaking countries due to the meaning of its name in Spanish; “Ranch Hand.” An unfortunate end to what would likely have been a popular offering, the Ranchero lives on as an exceptionally rare collector’s piece that boasts a unique story and an unfortunate mishap from one of horology’s most consistently brilliant watchmakers. Aesthetically similar to its three predecessors, the Ranchero features the same arrow-shaped hour hand that links the four models together and the 30mm inscription that describes its manual-wind cal. 267 movement A timepiece fit to meet the needs of a hard-working owner, the Ranchero's utilitarian design features a 35mm stainless steel case and a matching stainless steel bracelet.
