The watch was fully serviced very recently on 3rd January 2025 and is keeping excellent time. Calibre 600 has been very successful for Omega and is known for its reliability. There were over 409,000 built. It is also accurate and gives plenty of power reserve. This manual wind calibre was created in 1960 and has 17 jewels. It has been adjusted to two positions. Calibre 600 is the manual equivalent of the very successful calibre 550. This movement is in glowing condition and has been very well looked after. “Omega Watch Co Swiss” is signed on the plate. The Genève model was first launched in 1953 to pay homage to the Canton of Geneva. It became so successful that in 1970, this line of watches represented 60% of Omega’s production. Sadly, it was withdrawn in 1979 and is no longer produced. The watch measures 34mm without the crown and 38.5mm lug to lug. The caseback has reference No. 131.019SP. The first three digits stand for: 1 - Gent’s watch, 3 – Manual winding centre second, and 1 – None Water Resistant. If we look very carefully, above the model reference is the tiny maker’s mark of a coded emblem of Ervin Piquerez SA, also known as EPSA, the firm that manufactured this case. In common with Rolex, IWC, Jaeger LeCoultre and its other close competitors, Omega was not a manufacturer of watch cases and instead purchased these from a small network of third-party suppliers that specialised in this field. The watch features an acrylic crystal typical for this era. The expertly refinished dial has golden-black hour markers with the golden Omega ‘pencil’ hands. The crown is signed with the Omega logo. This watch will come in a new presentation box. We give the future owner a 3-month warranty for peace of mind. Brand new best quality black leather strap complements the look. Please study the pictures carefully, as these are at great magnification and show all the flaws that second-hand watches always have. A lot of watches are advertised as waterproof or water-resistant. As part of the service, we do replace all the gaskets and all the care is taken to make the watches resistant to water. The truth is that in old watches it is nearly impossible to achieve the 100% result. So, do not take a bath or shower wearing your vintage watch. There is always a risk that something can go wrong and the damage caused by water is the hardest to repair. This is why we never say our watches are waterproof. Please treat them as if they are not if you want the timeless Omega. This watch has been worn proudly in the past. It shows you what sort of amazing engineering has gone into it if it can survive in this workable state for so long. The truth is you need to service your watch at least every five years to make sure you prolong its life. We have a watchmaker that had been helping us with restoration for the past 20 years and he has been working with Omega watches for the past 50 years - you can't get any more knowledge than that. He has now retired and helps only us while enjoying his retirement. He is not pushed to deliver to the deadlines and he takes his time to make it perfect. There has been a lot of love and care dotted on this watch and you can see it in the pictures. The photos are at great magnification and even tiny marks are visible - you will not be able to see these with a naked eye. You will be able to see the specks of dust even though I try my best to wipe these off. This is a superb vintage Omega watch in excellent condition, one of the better Omega models available on the market.
