Elusive and highly distinctive Omega Flightmaster ref. 145.036 that comes in gorgeous condition. The flightmaster has been serviced, is fully functional and comes with 12 months warranty. It was engineered and marketed mainly to pilots who would rely on the blue hour hand to tell the time in different time zones. This reference also came with a “special order” yellow chronograph hands for where aircraft cockpits were lit with infra-red lighting. Therefore, the Flightmaster was worn on official NASA/Soyuz missions. A part from its popularity with American Astronauts and Russian Cosmonauts, It has also been reported that most senior crew members aboard the British Airways Concorde fleet wore this watch. This third execution Flightmaster was produced between 1973 to 1977 and comes as a package that features 3 crowns, 2 pushers and 7 hands. Its groundbreaking design has always been regarded as ahead of its time and perhaps it still is! The 35 Million serial number puts its production date to circa 1972/1973 DIAL+HANDS: The charcoal grey dial is copacetic and retains its sharp imprint and colour palette. The three engine-turned subdials are crisp and clean. . The inner bi-directional bezel is flawless and rotates as it should. . The Tritium coated handset is in gorgeous condition and correct to this reference. The lume material has aged to acquire a dark creamy tone. · The greenish Tritium indexes are present and fully intact. When activated with UV light, the lume stripes and hands glow and then fade off. CRYSTAL: The mineral glass is in excellent condition with no visible marks or scratches. CASE: The stainless steel case boasts a substantial 42mm diameter and 52mm from tip to tip. It was pressed and tempered 16 times to take its unique elliptical shape with hidden lugs, designed to perfectly fit the contours of the wrist. The case has been previously polished but still maintains a strong profile. The original “sunburst” finish has been recreated and shows very minimal signs of wear. CASE BACK: The lightly polished case back shows a prominent Flightmaster logo, along with hairline scratches. CROWNS + PUSHERS: The main winding crown is correct and operates flawlessly. The chronograph pushers still retain their paint and work as intended. The blue paint on the 10 o’clock crown is still present, whereas the black paint on the bottom one has fallen off. Both crowns work perfectly, as the top one adjusts the second time zone hand, while the other crown rotates the inner bezel. MOVEMENT: The manually wound, Omega 911 caliber that animates this watch, offers a Tri-Compax display, featuring a constant running seconds at 9 o’clock, a 30 minutes recorder at 3 o’clock and a 12 hour totalizer at 6 o’clock. The movement also allows the tracking of a second time zone thanks to the airplane-shaped blue hand. The signed movement is numbered and has been serviced thus it works perfectly and keeps strong time. BRACELET: The oval-link, stainless steel bracelet and folding clasp come with the correct 172 end links. The ensemble is correct and in outstanding condition, as the bracelet presents no stretch and nicely fits a 19 cm wrist. The signed clasp bears the period-correct nomenclature, including the reference number 1162/11. ACCESSORIES: Saffiano Leather Watch Roll.
