Omega Constellation 168.027

Description

Omega Constellation RARE Kim Il Sung Dial Day-Date Cal. 751 168.029

Up for sale is a vintage Omega Constellation Day-Date “C Case” in steel, reference 168.029, powered by the Caliber 751 movement. The Cal. 751 is a COSC chronometer-certified automatic movement with day and date complications, representing one of Omega’s finest movements from this era. The 31 million serial number dates this watch to approximately 1970. What makes this Constellation truly extraordinary is its RARE Kim Il Sung Signature Dial— one of only a few known to exist. This watch was custom commissioned from Omega by the NK government in the early 1970s and was presented as a diplomatic gift to high-ranking foreign officials, including heads of state, senior diplomatic representatives, and visiting delegations on special occasions. The dial bears the signature of Kim Il Sung in red script, along with a Korean-language day wheel, confirming its provenance as a special-order piece. Kim Il Sung was the founding leader of NK, ruling from the nation’s establishment in 1948 until his death in 1994. He was later declared “Eternal President” and is known historically as the “Great Leader.” Regardless of one’s political perspective, these diplomatically commissioned timepieces represent a fascinating intersection of horology and 20th-century history. The reference 168.029 “C Case” is itself a desirable Constellation variant, but finding one as a NK commission makes this example exceptionally rare. The 168.029 is notably less common as a commission piece than the later Constellation variants that were issued through the mid-to-late 1970s, making early examples like this especially difficult to source. The watch is in all-original condition, featuring an Omega-signed crystal, crown, case, dial, and original Beads of Rice bracelet. The movement has recently been inspected and adjusted and is running at an impressive +5 seconds per day. The case is well preserved, and the dial shows only light signs of aging while retaining the crisp Kim Il Sung signature. The crystal shows light wear consistent with age. Overall, this is a remarkably well-preserved example of an already incredibly rare piece. This is a truly exceptional collector’s watch — a piece of both horological and geopolitical history that very rarely surfaces for sale. Don’t miss your chance to own it!
