The watch was fully serviced very recently on 22nd January 2025. It has a fantastic manual wind movement cal.283 inside the case. Calibre 283 is derived from the famous cal.30. The production run started in 1949 and finished in 1963. When this watch was manufactured, Omega was arguably the most prestigious watchmaker in the world, with the brand having more prestige in the eyes of the general public than its arch-rival Rolex. In 1962, master regulator Joseph Ory had fine-tuned a series of conventional, standard production Omega wristwatches in a variety of different size classes. Literally, he pulverised the two previously held category records for accuracy at the Geneva Observatory. Omega was officially the manufacturer of the most precise wristwatches on earth. This calibre has 17 jewels, and the well-maintained movement looks excellent. "Omega Swiss” is signed on the bridge together with "17 Jewels", while the calibre number 283 is stamped on the plate. The watch measures 36mm without the crown and 44mm lug to lug. The case back is a push-type and has reference No. 2504-5 The acrylic crystal is in very good shape. The expertly refinished dial has silver facetted reliefs and Arabic numerals as hour markers with excellent silver Dauphine Omega hands. The crown is signed with the Omega logo. Brand new brown leather strap complements the look. The watch will come in a presentation box. We give the future owner a 3-month warranty for peace of mind. Please study the pictures carefully, as these are at great magnification and show all the flaws that second-hand watches always have. A lot of watches are advertised as waterproof or water-resistant. As part of the service, we do replace all the gaskets and all the care is taken to make the watches resistant to water. The truth is that in the old watches, it is nearly impossible to achieve the 100% result. So, do not take a bath or shower wearing your vintage watch. There is always a risk that something can go wrong and the damage caused by water is the hardest to repair. This is why we never say our watches are waterproof. Please treat them as if they are not if you want the timeless Omega. This watch has been worn proudly in the past. It shows you what sort of amazing engineering has gone into it if it can survive in this workable state for so long. The truth is you need to service your watch at least every five years to make sure you prolong its life. We have a watchmaker that had been helping us with restoration for the past 20 years and he has been working with Omega watches for the past 50 years - you can't get any more knowledge than that. He has now retired and helps only us while enjoying his retirement. He is not pushed to deliver to the deadlines and he takes his time to make it perfect. There has been a lot of love and care dotted on this watch and you can see it in the pictures. The photos are at great magnification and even tiny marks are visible - you will not be able to see these with the naked eye. You will be able to see the specks of dust even though I try my best to wipe these off. This is a fantastic vintage Omega watch in great condition, one of the better Omega models available on the market.
