In 1970, Omega played a vital role in the Apollo 13 mission, during which the Speedmaster Professional chronograph proved indispensable in timing a precise 14-second engine burn that corrected the spacecraft’s trajectory and ensured the crew’s safe return to Earth. To commemorate this milestone, Omega introduced the Speedmaster Professional “Silver Snoopy Award” in 2003, the first model dedicated to celebrating the brand’s partnership with NASA. Limited to 5,441 examples, which correspond to the duration of the Apollo 13 mission, 142 hours, 54 minutes, and 41 seconds—the watch features Snoopy in an astronaut suit on the subsidiary seconds dial at 9 o’clock and a blue case back medallion engraved “Silver Snoopy Award – Eyes on the Stars.” The present watch is preserved in virtually new-old-stock condition and is accompanied by its Omega International Warranty, literature, and a presentation box signed by astronaut James A. Lovell Jr. (1928–2025). Commander of the Apollo 13 mission, James A. Lovell Jr. was one of NASA’s most accomplished astronauts, he took part in four space missions—Gemini 7, Gemini 12, Apollo 8, and Apollo 13. As commander of Apollo 13, Lovell guided his crew through the crisis that became known as NASA’s “successful failure.” His signature on the presentation box provides a personal touch to the mission that inspired this timepiece. An outstanding and historically significant example of the Speedmaster “Silver Snoopy Award”, the present watch is offered without reserve.
