The Omega Speedmaster has earned its place as one of the most iconic timepieces in history, famously accompanying astronauts on all six moon landings. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission in 1969, Omega introduced a special Limited Edition Speedmaster that honor this monumental event in space exploration. Limited to just 6,969 pieces, this watch is a tribute to both Omega’s heritage and the daring spirit of the Apollo 11 mission. This Limited Edition Speedmaster features a 42 mm stainless steel case, complemented by a polished 18K Moonshine Gold bezel. Omega’s proprietary Moonshine Gold, a unique alloy, offers a paler hue than traditional yellow gold and provides enhanced resistance to fading over time, symbolizing the lasting impact of the Apollo 11 mission. The bezel ring is made from polished black ceramic [ZrO2] and is adorned with an OMEGA Ceragold tachymeter scale, merging modern materials with classic design elements. The dial is a striking combination of grey and black varnish, providing a sophisticated backdrop for the 18K Moonshine Gold indexes and hands. The central chronograph seconds hand, however, stands out with its PVD coating in Moonshine Gold, adding a touch of contrast and elegance. A unique design feature of this model is the special hour marker at 11 o’clock, commemorating the Apollo 11 mission. Moreover, the 9 o’clock subdial features a laser-engraved image of astronaut Buzz Ald stepping down onto the lunar surface, recalling Apollo 11's fateful landing in 1969. The watch's case is made from stainless steel, as is its bracelet. Turning it over, one is greeted not with an open view of the cal. 3861, but with another tribute to 1969's lunar landing. Laser-engraved onto a moon-surface texture is an image of an astronaut's footprint framed by Neil Armstrong's legendary quote, transmitted from the lunar surface back to the earth at 10:39 EDT on July 20, 1969: "THAT'S ONE SMALL STEP FOR A MAN – ONE GIANT LEAP FOR MANKIND." With its unique design and limited availability, it has quickly become a collector’s favorite and a symbol of the timeless appeal of the Speedmaster series.
