Here we have a 1990s Girard-Perregaux Ferrari Auto Chronograph reference: 8020. Their official watch sponsorship began in 1994 between Gino Macaluso, who acquired Girard-Perregaux in 1992 and Ferrari's Luca di Montezemolo; their collaboration lasted until 2004. Featuring a 38mm satin-brushed and polished stainless steel round case that comfortably sits on your wrist, thanks to the thick tapered lugs. Its curved flanks lead to a lug-to-lug length of 45mm and a case thickness of 12mm, giving the watch an impressive wrist presence. On the right side, we have the polished pushers and a deep-knurled signed ‘Cavallino Rampante’ Ferrari logo crown in the centre. The satin-brushed, smooth-sloping bezel holds a flat sapphire crystal above a matte-black tricompax dial. An outer minute track surrounds Tritium-coated Arabic numerals marking the hours. At 3 o’clock, a running seconds; at 6 o’clock, a 12-hour; and finally at 9 o’clock, a 30-minute, each clearly marked with a white leaf hand, between the 4 and 5 a date window. White hands filled with Tritium are complemented by a tapered chronograph hand. At noon, we have the ‘Cavallino Rampante’, Italian for ‘Little Prouncing Horse,’ Ferrari logo, and at 6 o’clock, the Girard-Perregaux motif completes this racing thoroughbred collaboration chronograph. On the reverse, a screwed-down solid case back engraved with the Ferrari logo, Girard-Perregaux motif and the watch details, inside an automatic Girard-Perregaux Cal. GP2280 features an ETA 2892-A2 base and a Dubois-Depraz 2021 chronograph module. It comes paired with a well-suited aftermarket 20mm leather strap and pin buckle. This incredible reference 8020 comes in a charming 30mm Francois Borgel case, whilst on the smaller side, it does wear surprisingly well and looks fantastic, even on my 7-inch wrist.
