Brand: Movado The Movado Ermeto Chronomètre is among the most documented horological innovations of the early twentieth century. The Ermeto was introduced by Movado in 1926, incorporating a rack-winding mechanism invented by Isidore Ditesheim, in which two racks — one housed in each sliding case half — engage a pinion on the winding stem as the case is opened and closed, winding the movement automatically. Three complete opening-and-closing actions provide approximately 24 hours of power reserve. The Chronomètre designation identifies timepieces that were adjusted and certified for precision in five positions, a standard that distinguishes them from the broader Ermeto production. The Ermeto was awarded the Grand Prix at the 1929 Barcelona World Exhibition. Based on dated auction records and London import hallmarks placing serial number 1188052 in 1928, serial number 1221162 is consistent with a production date of circa 1930. The case is sterling silver 925, measuring 33.5 mm in height by 49 mm total length in the closed position, and presents in very good condition with only light traces of use commensurate with age. The caseback locks firmly and carries the correct serial number and manufacturer’s markings. The external covering is the original black lizard skin, in excellent condition with no holes or tears. The mineral glass is in perfect condition. The silvered centre-seconds dial is original and in excellent condition, signed “Movado, Chronomètre Ermeto, Swiss Made,” with an Arabic numeral chapter ring, peripheral seconds track, center seconds hand, and blued steel hands. This dial shows only a very light and even time patina and no stains or oxidations. The movement is Movado calibre 150MN: 17 jewels, rack-winding automatic mechanism, lever escapement, bi-metallic compensation balance, 18,000 vibrations per hour.
