Having taken the independent watchmaking scene by storm, MING watches have become some of the most sought-after timepieces on the market, and the 17.09 is no exception. Launched in 2022 as the last watch within the 17 series, it boasted two variants, one with a blue dial and one with a burgundy dial, of which we have the blue here. Made of stainless steel and boasting a 38mm x 10mm stainless steel case, the 17.09 features MING’s distinctive construction with a gently domed bezel and discreet Oriental flourishes that hint at its Malaysian DNA in the form of its flared pagoda lugs – a central tenant of MING's now-famed aesthetic. With a polished bezel and lug hoods, the 17.09's mid-case provides a strong contrast through a satin finish that runs parallel to the case. As nicely made as the 17.09’s case is, it is no surprise that its dial is the star of the show. Boasting a two-piece dial construction, this 17.09 belongs to a limited edition collection of just 50 pieces that was commissioned by the Watch Club Society of New York. Instead of the usual clous de Paris central portion, this example features a black brick textured pattern in the center that is then contrasted by a circular brushed outer portion, which reflects the contrast we see in the 17.09’s case. Furthermore, the dial is free on any indices. Instead, Super-LumiNova is laid into etched channels on the underside of the sapphire crystal which gives the appearance of a floating minute track over the dial, giving the 17.09’s display a truly three-dimensional design that is entirely beautiful. THE CONSTRUCTION Boasting a 38mm diameter and standing just 10mm tall, the 17.09 is an exceptionally comfortable watch, with its pagoda lugs curving down the watch and allowing the strap to follow their path and effortlessly wrap around the wrist.
