Announced in early 2021, the Massena Lab Archetype 0.0 is a pre-series prototype timepiece that is “the product of a laboratory experiment,” as Massena Lab puts it. Launched as a 32-piece limited edition collection, the 0.0 was only available to the brand's family and friends, and not the public. Inspired by the vintage chronographs of old, the Archetype 0.0 features a wonderfully-executed stainless steel 42mm construction with beveled lugs, pump pushers, and a double-domed sapphire crystal. Manually wound with a Sellita cal. SW510 M beating within its case, the 0.0 features 58-hours of power reserve and has been regulated to chronometer spec. However, the star of the 0.0’s show is its incredible gloss black dial. Sporting incredibly vivid gilt inscriptions that stay true to its vintage aesthetic with open numbers, a serif font, and two-tone gilt allowing for dark subdial inscriptions than the surrounding inscriptions. All in all, the 0.0 features the level of detail required to produce a masterful remake of the watches of yesteryear, something Massena Labs has shown time and time again that they are more than capable of achieving. Featuring a beautiful glossy black dial, the 0.0 is detailed with bright gold markings that have been achieved by recreating the same traditional gilt techniques as those used in mid-century dial making. Made of stainless steel, the 0.0's construction is immediately reminiscent of vintage chronographs with beveled lugs, pump pushers, and a double domed sapphire crystal.
