Lindbergh decided to start from an existing watch: the "Weems Second Setting Watch". It was a watch-instrument, the result of a collaboration between Philip Van Horn Weems, an expert in aerial navigation, and John Heinmüller, a Longines watchmaker with a passion for aviation. This watch, the Weems Second Setting Watch, features an independent central disc system that synchronizes the seconds with a radio-broadcast time signal.
