Description

Longines Elegant Collection L4.330.5.87.7

The history of Longines begins in 1832, when the young Auguste Agassiz starts working with a watchmaker in Saint-Imier. In 1847, he takes over the workshop and changes the name to Agassiz & Cie. Due to illness, Agassiz is forced to transfer the company to his nephew, Ernest Francillon, in 1862. The latter has grand plans and builds a new factory on the banks of a river near Saint-Imier in 1867, using the flowing water as an energy source for watch production. The area for the factory is known as Les Longines, which also becomes the new name for the watch house. Today, the headquarters and factory of Longines are still located in Saint-Imier. Over the years, Longines has won various awards for its timepieces and is closely involved as the 'official timekeeper' in several major sporting events.
