Since its inception, Longines has expanded its sales network from America to other continents, successfully selling watches manufactured in a home industry. In the mid-1850s, Ernest Francillon, the nephew of Agassiz, took over management and worked to improve the watch manufacturing process by consolidating it in one location. In 1867, the Longines factory was established in a place called 'Longines' on the right bank of the Suze River, where assembly and finishing could be done mechanically in one place. Francillon invited a young engineer, Jacques David, to develop the necessary machinery to improve the manufacturing process. By 1930, production continued to expand steadily. By 1911, the Longines factory employed over 1,100 workers and shipped its products worldwide. Longines' technical research has been rewarded in various forms, winning over ten grand prizes by the time of the 1929 International Exposition in Barcelona, becoming known as the 'brand with the most awards'. In 1989, Francillon registered the name Longines and the logo of the hourglass with wings as a trademark. Longines is one of the oldest brands registered with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), using the same registered trademark and logo as in the past. Through the evolution of manufacturing technology in the factory, Longines has gradually built a special relationship with the sports world, providing its expertise in various fields, including the glamorous sports of the 20th century.
