Leonidas Chronographe CP-2 flyback Valjoux 222 for the italian army
In our last release, we talked about the nice Swedish army's taste for beautiful chronographs. But that was without counting on the Italian army, which has chosen manufacturers such as Leonidas, Universal Genève and Zenith to produce watches for their soldiers. It was at the end of the 1950s that the Italian army wanted to renew the TIPO CP1 chronographs used by the pilots of the Aeronautica and the Marina Militare Italiana.
Like all watches made for the army, the Leonidas CP-2 (cronometro di polso) fulfills the criteria set by the Italian army. The specifications asked for a robust piece with perfect readability in a 43 mm case that could be worn over the pilot's suit. So sized at a muscular 43mm, this nice stainless steel military chronograph was made as a pure utilitarian piece. The Leonidas is equipped by a flyback complication realized by the Valjoux 222, which is also found in the Breguet Type 20 chosen by the French army.
It is a nice and clean watch by its design, easy to wear, reliable and in superb condition.
