Vintage LeCoultre “Aristocrat” Grasshopper, Late 1940s Offered here is a rare and highly collectible LeCoultre “Aristocrat,” better known among collectors as the Grasshopper, an iconic American market design from the late 1940s. With its distinctive sculptural case and elegant Art Deco inspired lines, this is one of the most recognizable and sought after vintage LeCoultre dress watches. The rare 10K white gold filled case is especially desirable, as most examples were produced in yellow gold filled cases. The case remains in wonderful vintage shape with strong lines, beautiful curves, and honest light wear consistent with age. As shown in the photographs, it presents exceptionally well and retains all the charm these unusual cases are loved for. The original two tone dial has developed the honest wear and aging one expects from a watch of this era, which only adds to its authenticity and vintage character. Patina and age marks are normal and appropriate for a watch from the 1940s. Original applied markers, subsidiary seconds register, and original hands remain intact, preserving the watch’s period charm. Powered by its original LeCoultre manual wind movement, the watch is currently running well. We have not serviced the watch, as it arrived functioning properly and did not appear to require major intervention. As with any watch from the 1940s, it should be appreciated as a vintage mechanical timepiece rather than judged by modern chronometer expectations. These watches were built in a different era, and originality is often more important than over restoration. An honest and attractive vintage example retaining its original character. The watch remains true to what collectors seek, originality, charm, and untouched vintage appeal.
