Kurono Tokyo is the more affordable sub-brand introduced by Asaoka, utilising third-party movements (in this case the NE86A column wheel chronograph movement from Seiko' Time Module workshop) housed in 316L stainless steel cases, allowing Asaoka-san to fully exercise his meticulous design philosophy and attention to detail, within an accessible price band. The Shiro II features a multi-level lacquered white dial marked with telemeter, tachymetre and pulsometer scales, arranged in such a way as to avoid cluttering the layout. Hour and minute hands are in Asaoka-san's familiar yet unusual sword shape, with the sub-seconds hand in the form of a kyudo arrow. I purchased this watch in 2022 directly via the Kurono Tokyo website, during the approximately 3 minute window during which it was available to order before selling out. I have worn it sparingly since then (probably less than a dozen times), and apart from some very faint scuffs on the left-hand aspect of the caseband, it presents in as-new condition, as can be seen from the photos. The watch comes as a "full set" including outer box, inner box, black envelope, Thank You card with Omamori, welcome booklet containing warranty card dated April 2022, Kurono polishing cloth and a beautifully patterned decorative wrapping cloth.
