Including that of the rise of parts manufacturer Gebrüder Junghans to become a world-renowned watchmaker. It's all about precision, like the art of high-quality chronometer construction. Junghans, Germany's largest watch manufacturer, is a master of both. The path to the precise Junghans chronometer With wristwatches now coming into fashion, the rise of the Junghans brothers continued. Initially, however, the focus was on robust and rather inexpensive watches. Junghans produced a large number of these watches, but it took another twenty years for this increased commitment to precision. So it was in 1952 that Junghans began producing particularly precise wristwatches. In order to document this new precision, these particularly precise watches went on sale with a certificate from the watch testing center of the Baden Württemberg State Trade Office. The original idea for the precise Junghans chronometers was conceived before the end of the Second World War, when the Pforzheim and Glashütte watch industries wanted to build an equally precise and robust military watch. However, this idea came to nothing, but the desire for precision remained. And so, after the end of the Second World War, Junghans designer a. Letsche set about developing the legendary j 82 caliber, which was used in the first Junghans chronometers from 1952. The path to quality The newly developed chronometer caliber was a 12 ½-line hand-wound movement with 16 jewels, Junghans' own shock protection and small seconds. The evolution of this caliber took place in small steps, which were documented by a slash and an additional digit. The caliber j 82 was followed by the versions j 82/1 to j 82/3 with indirect central seconds and 17 jewels. These versions already had a stop-seconds device for setting the watch to the exact second. A common feature of all j 82 calibres was the particularly large screw balance, whose high moment of inertia formed the basis for the required precision.
