It requires no winding button, for it always stores sufficient power to set the balance spring going. The elimination of the normal keyless work enabled the designers to provide the movement with a large balance, hence greatly increasing accuracy. Another factor for higher precision is the special devices locking the oscillating weight as soon as the spring is sufficiently wound. This eliminates any overwinding and ensues strict accuracy. Equipped with a power reserve indicator and all the improvements indispensable to absolute automation, the new Jaeger-LeCoultre SR-497 is the first watch which can be truthfully styled “100% self-winding”.
