It is able to work autonomously, only with the energy produced by normal variations in temperature. The "lung" at the back of the watch is nothing more than a bellows filled with ethyl chloride, which, connected to the spring of the barrel, senses the slightest change in temperature, thus causing a change in the volume of the gas. The resulting expansion/contraction acts on the spring, thus charging the pendulette.
