IWC Flatline bi metal

This men’s IWC quartz watch used the latest technology to keep the case size down. Model reference 3004. HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH? From the serial number on the case back we can date this watch to being made circa 1979. Between 1978 and 1982 IWC made fewer than 100,000 watches, so they tend to be quite scarce. CONDITION At under 8.5mm thick is was about 40% slimmer than the earlier quartz watches, as technology had miniaturized the components needed to make the movement. And despite this being badged an IWC calibre 2405, it is heavily based on the ETA 940.111 ‘Flatline’ movement. This was used by other manufacturers as well, making spare parts if ever needed easier to find, but we have not seen any others that are as finely finished as the IWC. Not that you can see than normally, as it is hidden behind the steel case back. But it would be a treat for any watchmaker! Everything is working correctly, including the quick set date, and we will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner. The bezel has a few minor dings but no sign of wear, so we suspect this was 18k gold. The crown is signed with the fish logo that IWC use to show the watch was originally water resistant. The dial is silver with a hint of gold, and suits the styling very well. This watch would have been (and still could be considered to be) an alternative to the Rolex Oysterquartz, but this IWC is found in much smaller numbers that its Geneva rival. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred. This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.
