Brand: IWC This mid 1960s vintage IWC is part of IWC’s tradition of refined mechanical dress watches during the postwar era, it is in an excellent overal condotion, just serviced, and fitted with a one- off custom-made Tiffany blue laquered dial. The stainless steel case measures 35 mm in diameter excluding the original crown, it is in a very good, with only light, expected signs of use. The pressure-locked caseback closes securely and shows the correct manufacturer markings and serial number. The plexiglass crystal is intact and free from scratches. The dial is a custom Tiffany-blue lacquered, with baton hour indices, the outer minute track and a crisp Red printing of the IWC signature. The dial is in an excellent condition, it has no patina, no discoloration, and no signs of flaking or wear. This watch is powered by the IWC calibre 89, one of the manufacture`s must iconic and respected calibers, a hand-wound movement introduced in 1946 and produced through the 1970s. The IWC calibre 89 was developed under the leadership of Albert Pellaton and remained in production from 1946 for 30 years. The reputation of calibre 89 rests on its excellent quality and finish grade, on its mechanical simplicity, robustness, and reliability making it a caliber easy to service and with a good long-term stability. Pellaton’s influence at IWC was instrumental in the development of calibre 89. Upon becoming technical director in 1944, calibre 89 stands not only as a hallmark of IWC manufacture but also as an early reflection of Pellaton’s technical vision, which later paved the way for his full pawl- winding system in automatic models.
