Since the birth of the Portuguese in 1939, the watch has become the definition of the IWC brand. It broke the mold of the traditional wristwatch by using a hunter-pocketwatch movement (due to the crown position) to create something classic but within the larger case, which today we think of as a normal sized wristwatch. Over 80 years later the model is still an integral part of the brand having achieved iconic status as the epitome of German style and luxury. This version, the reference IW5001-09 was launched in 2004 and was discontinued in 2015. It comes set in a polished 42.3mm stainless steel case with a rich black dial. The dial features a 60-minute counter around the chapter ring with applied full Arabic numeral hour markers with matching ‘leaf’ hands and twin sub-dials at 9 and 3 o’clock for the running second hand and 7-Day power reserve indicator. Protected by a domed sapphire crystal glass and powered by the IWC calibre 51011 automatic movement, which is visible through an exhibition caseback. The watch comes fitted on a black alligator leather strap with a steel IWC folding deployment clasp. Originally purchased in January 2005 and in mint condition, this IWC comes with its original inner and outer boxes, cleaning cloth, instruction booklet, warranty booklet and international warranty card. Please be advised the inner box cushion is non-original, in addition to the inner box showing signs of wear, leatherette peeling.
