First launched in 1939, the IWC Portugieser has become an iconic piece of horological design thanks to its long and storied past as one of the first "big watches" to make it to market. THE CONSTRUCTION Made of stainless steel and boasting a large 42.4mm case, the IW344203 makes for an imposing figure on the wrist, as IWC is known for thanks to their history in large aviator's watches. However, with its use of steel, the IW344203 democratizes its complex perpetual calendar function, which watchmakers normally reserve for only precious metal watches, resulting in a high price of entry.
