Description: The collaboration between IWC Schaffhausen and Porsche Design stands as one of the most significant partnerships in late 20th-century watchmaking, two icons of precision engineering. In1978, the partnership was born from a shared philosophy Ferdinand Alexander Porsche’s belief that form must follow function, and IWC’s pursuit of technical mastery. The first fruits of this relationship were the world’s first wristwatches made entirely of titanium, a material previously considered too difficult to machine for fine watchmaking. The collaboration drew on IWC’s pioneering metallurgical research and Porsche Design’s aerospace engineering influence, producing watches that were lightweight, hypoallergenic, and exceptionally durable properties that have since become standard in modern sports watch design. This Ref. IW3702, introduced in 1989, represents the maturity of that partnership. Housed in a 42mm brushed titanium case, the watch retains the minimalist, industrial aesthetic for which Porsche Design is celebrated smooth integrated pushers, a perfectly symmetrical case profile, and a flush titanium bracelet that flows seamlessly into the case.
