IWC Grande Complication IW3770

Description

IWC Grande Complication

The Grande Complication ref. IW3770 is a hero watch for IWC that debuted at Baselworld in 1990, marking a significant milestone for the brand. One of just 50 pieces, the watch was produced in extremely limited numbers until 2010, and at its launch marked one of the first modern wristwatch grande complications. The watch has substantial proportions, with its platinum case measuring 42.3mm in diameter with a thickness of 16.4mm. Its design includes a lacquered white dial with gold indices, military-style hands, and numerous complications: a perpetual calendar, aventurine moon phase, chronograph, and minute repeater. The minute repeater is actuated using a pull-down lever on the case flank at 9 o'clock. The movement, originally a Valjoux 7750, is heavily modified by IWC, featuring the Kurt Klaus perpetual calendar system and IWC's own minute repeater module. Attached to the case is a black leather strap and signed IWC platinum folding clasp. This watch demonstrates IWC's expertise in technical watchmaking and bridges historical grand complications with contemporary design.
