It is original condition with the dial remarkably well preserved. Originally, intended to be worn on the wrists of a Bundeswehr pilots, this Heuer chronograph boasts an array of functions to aid the servicemen of the West German Federal Forces who played a pivotal role as the backbone of NATO's defense efforts in central Europe in the midst of the Cold War. Please read the condition report carefully and refer to the high-resolution pictures to help you assess the overall condition of the watch. MODEL / REFERENCE: Heuer Bundeswehr Flyback “H3” chronograph reference 1550 SG. DIAL+HANDS: For a military chronograph, legibility is key and this Heuer aced it thanks to a well-executed matte black dial, showing a crisp, contrasting text that extends from the brands logo all the way to the big, engine-turned subdials and 60-minute chapter ring. It remains remarkably intact without any marks or blemishes and has developed a subtle and uniform patina. The H3 symbol in red is indicative of the use of Tritium, a radioactive isotope of Hydrogen. It sets as a well-documented dial variant as well. The Tritium coated handset is in gorgeous condition and correct to this reference. The lume material has aged to acquire a creamy/custard patina. The luminous material of the seconds hand has fallen off. The bold Arabic numerals are fully intact and nicely garnished with a creamy Tritium tone that perfectly matches with the handset’s. CRYSTAL: The unsigned acrylic crystal is in very good condition, showing light surface marks. CASE: The two-body stainless steel case was clearly conceived to last and keeps its true, tool watch essence with an impressive diameter of 43mm across and a 51mm lug to lug. The matte case, with its sandblasted finish, is still in lovely condition considering its service age and does not show signs of extensive polishing, or much at all. The thick, rotating bezel is intact and shows some subtle signs of wear and scratches, especially at 2 o’clock. Designed with legibility in mind, the big arrow at 12 o’clock and Arabic quarters allow the wearer to measure elapsed time at a glance. CASEBACK: The single-step case back is held in the reverse side of the bezel by 4 screws that keep pressure and hold the whole case together following the principle of clamshell cases. The overall condition is good, seeing the minor scuffs, the unaltered concentric brushed finish along with the crisply stamped Bundeswehr name and issue number. The inner side is clean and bears the correct stamps. CROWN + PUSHERS: The grooved, oversized crown is unsigned and shows the same finish as the case, thus appears to be correct. It is in excellent condition and operates flawlessly, from winding to time setting. The pump pushers are also correct and operate as intended, starting, stopping and resetting the chronograph functions flawlessly. MOVEMENT: This Heuer Bund is powered by the robust, manually-wound, Valjoux 230 that features a two-button, two-register chronograph layout. For military purposes, this caliber also offers a flyback function, particularly handy for the accurate measuring of consecutive events, so no need to stop and reset. Additionally, it features a hacking-seconds feature when the time is being set, a crucial act for precisely synchronizing with a secondary timepiece or using the watch as a reference signal. It has been serviced recently and ticks strong, keeps good time with the chronograph functions works perfectly. BRACELET: This chronograph comes equipped with a high quality black bund strap (made in Italy) and an unsigned pin buckle. ACCESSORIES:Saffiano Leather Watch Roll.
