Hamilton .Thinline 4005

Description

c1964 Hamilton Thinline

The Hamilton Thinline models used monobloc cases to both improve water resistance and slim down the cases. Model reference 4005. HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH? By comparing this watch to the ones in the excellent book Hamilton Watches: A Reference Guide ( by Bruce Shawkey) we can see the Thinline 4005 model, in 10k gold filled case and with Swiss grade 687 movement was in production between 1963 and 1965. |We can not narrow the production date of this specific watch any closer than that, sow we opted for circa 1964. CONDITION The most noticeable thing with this model Thinline is the etched patterned bezel. Being gold filled rather than gold plated, the wear is minimal – gold filled is far thicker than gold plating. The dial is original but does have some patina, and we have taken a photo of the watch outside of the case so you can see the patina clearly without reflections. The monobloc case does mean the movement is tucked behind the crystal, and while it is a little more difficult to access than a two or three piece case no watchmaker should struggle. The movement is all working well, and is wound via the signed crown. Originally the watch will have come on a stretchy bracelet, but that has been lost over the years and we have fitted a blue leather strap. This could be swapped for a different colour or material if preferred. The watch is signed on the dial, case, movement, and crown. This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity. SIZE Width with crown 34.2 mm Width without crown 32.5 mm Between lugs 17.5 mm Lug to lug length 36.5 mm Case Thickness 8.1 mm All sizes are approximate. The watch is photographed on a wrist of 190mm/7.5 inches.
