Hamilton Model 23 Military Chronograph AN 5742-1, U.S. Army Air Forces, Circa 1942-1945. Rare and highly collectible World War II U.S. military pocket chronograph manufactured by the Hamilton Watch Company. Model 23, produced under Army-Navy specification AN 5742-1 for the U.S. Army Air Forces. Large 51 mm base-metal case with original military engraving to the back: "AN 5742-1", serial number H-7680, and contract markings. Black military dial with luminous Arabic numerals, outer telemeter/seconds scale, 30-minute chronograph register at 12 o'clock and constant seconds at 6. Powered by the renowned Hamilton Grade 23 manual-wind chronograph movement (19 jewels). Fly-back function. Movement signed "Hamilton" and "Model 23". An iconic WWII aviation instrument, widely regarded as one of the most important American military chronographs ever produced. Condition: running at time of evaluation; not recently service-tested. Dial original with light age wear. Case shows honest service patina.
