Fifty-five years later, the SBGW289 pays tribute to this landmark design as a limited-edition, manual-winding model inspired by the original. Its 36.5mm case, measuring 11.6mm in thickness, presents a more compact profile while preserving the distinctive design elements that made both the vintage and modern 44GS icons of Japanese watchmaking. The dial of the SBGW289 draws inspiration from Sakura-kakushi , or “the hiding of the cherry blossom”. Rendered in a soft pink with a silvery hue, the dial features a finely textured surface that shifts beautifully with changing light. Powering the watch is the hand-assembled Caliber 9S64, this manual-winding mechanical movement offers a 72-hour power reserve and an accuracy rating of -3 to +5 seconds per day. Limited to just 1,200 pieces worldwide, the SBGW289 features “Limited Edition” and an individual serial number engraved on the closed case back alongside the Grand Seiko lion emblem. The condition of this timepiece is very good, with the exception of minor superficial scratching throughout the case and bracelet. Accompanying this watch is its original inner box, outer box, mechanical operating instructions booklet, dustbag, and Grand Seiko warranty card, dated July 2022.
