Manufactured for only about two years, this model is among the rarest and most collectible vintage Grand Seikos — often referred to as the “phantom Grand Seiko.” The 44GS was the first model from Seiko’s Suwa Seikosha Kameido factory to bear the “Grand Seiko” name. It was designed to meet the strict Grand Seiko Standard of precision, achieving remarkable accuracy without increasing the balance wheel size or beat rate. This achievement has led many enthusiasts to regard the 44GS as one of the finest movements ever made in Grand Seiko’s history.
