Gérald Charles Genta was born on May 1, 1931, in Geneva, to a Swiss mother and a father of Piedmontese origin. At the age of 20, he completed his studies in jewelry and goldsmithing and earned a Swiss federal diploma. Recruited by Universal Genève, he created the Polerouter model for the airline SAS in 1954. In the 1980s, he obtained a license from The Walt Disney Company and produced watches featuring the company's famous characters in a limited series. In 1994, he designed the Grande Sonnerie Retro, one of the most sophisticated watches in the world. Over the course of his life, Gérald Genta designed more than 100,000 models. Évelyne Genta, his wife and partner, owns a collection of over 3,400 unpublished, archived, and documented designs, which can be used to continue to promote the artist's creativity.
