The model is known as the 'Handover of Hong Kong' with the flags of The United Kingdom, Hong Kong and China being represented. This timepiece is historically significant as it marks the handover of Hong Kong from Great Britain and Northern Ireland to the People's Republic of China, which occurred at midnight on 1 July 1997. This event ended 156 years of British rule, dating back to the cession of Hong Kong Island in 1841 during the First Opium War. The timepiece has a stunning mother of pearl dial as a base for the iconic Mickey Mouse character. Disney and Gerald Genta first officially collaborated in 1984, when Genta launched a collection of luxury watches featuring Disney characters. Remarks: the white gold version of this model most recently sold at the Christie's Important Watches: Featuring "The Chronicle Part 2" and "The Eternity" Collections auction for 279,400 HKD including buyer’s premium (£27,150 GBP/ €31,000 EUR/ $35,900 USD) on November 27th, 2025. Condition report: the watch is in very good overall condition with minimal signs of use. The case is very well defined with its original polished stainless steel proportions, showing only light fine scratches and gentle wear along the bezel, bezel-edge and lugs. The case-back features very crisp engravings and hallmarks with minor discoloration/ oxidation noticeable due to the aging of the case-back sticker over the years. (which was removed and re-applied for photograph purposes) The mother of pearl dial is in mint condition. The hands and markers are clean and in near-mint condition. Includes: a new premium Bulang and Sons brilliant Bordeaux red leather strap (quick-release) and stainless steel buckle. The original Gerald Genta 'screw-in' spring bars (2x) are also included.
