The Gefica was introduced in the 1980s and was groundbreaking for its use of bronze—a material rarely seen in watchmaking at the time. It was originally designed for safaris, blending form and function in a highly distinctive manner. The GEFICA name was introduced in 1984 when Gerald Genta was commissioned by three hunters to create a watch specifically designed for safaris. Bronze was chosen as the primary material as with its sandblasted finish it prevents any reflective glare. The name “GEFICA” is derived from the initials of the hunters who inspired it: Geoffroy, Fissore, and Canali. This Gerald Genta Gefica chronograph in bronze and steel, reference G.2989.7, is original and in excellent aesthetic and mechanical condition, complete with its original box and guarantee card. The automatic movement, based on the reliable Valjoux R7750, is signed by Gerald Genta and has been freshly serviced. It runs accurately and keeps time well. The 36.5 mm bronze case, complemented by a screw-down steel case back, is in excellent condition, showing only light signs of use. The case is original, marked, and numbered. The dial is made from mother of pearl and it is in excellent condition, with no patina or oxidation.
