This watch was the first wristwatch made by Dr. Daniels to demonstrate the suitability of the Co-Axial escapement for wristwatches. It also incorporates another Daniels' invention, his compact chronograph mechanism which was experimental at the time. This ingenious mechanism occupies the vacant space to the right of the tourbillon carriage and neatly counterpoises the state of the winding mechanism on the left. It was essential for Dr. Daniels to develop wristwatches so he could capture the imagination of the Swiss watch industry. The addition of the complex chronograph was intended to attract attention which could then be directed to the escapement.
This watch was used as part of a model Dr. Daniels built for the Basel Fair in 1986. For a further note on the model and the other watches used please see lot 22.
