1950s Gallet Multichron Calendar Chronograph Valjoux 72C 35mm

Here we have an incredibly rare 1950s Gallet Multichron Calendar Chronograph Valjoux 72C featuring a 35mm stainless steel case that curves over your wrist with long tapered lugs. Its curved flanks lead to a lug-to-lug length of 43.5mm and a case thickness of 13mm ensures a comfortable fit. We have the piston-style chronograph pushers on the right side and a large coin-edged crown in the centre. On the left side, we have a pusher for the ‘Day’ and a pusher for the ‘Month’. A smooth bezel holds a domed crystal above a dynamic silver dial. An outer blue date ring surrounds a precisely executed minute track. A large applied ‘12’ and baton indexes mark the hours, at 3 o’clock a 30-minute register, at 6 o’clock a 12-hour register and finally at 9 o’clock the small seconds register, each recessed with an engine-turned pattern and fine hands. Elegant Dauphine hands are complemented by a tapered chronograph hand and a pointer date red arrow hand. At 12 o’clock, we have the Day and Month windows, along with the Gallet motif underneath, completing this vintage calendar chronograph. On the reverse, a screw-down case back featuring an engraving ‘From W.S.S. Jr To J.J.S November 1963’, inside a rare manually wound Valjoux Cal. 72C, 17 jewels, beating at a leisurely 18,800 beats per hour; this column wheel chronograph movement was originally introduced around 1946, until it was acquired by Valjoux in 1966, at which point it was renamed the 7730. It remained in production until 1974 and served as a base for many brands, including Breguet, Breitling, Jaeger-LeCoultre, and Universal Genève. The watch comes paired with a suitable 18mm strap.
